Rijk Zwaan develops new varieties for any period of the year. From early varieties for a premium crop to autumn and winter leeks and overwintering leeks. In our breeding work we also bear in mind the various preferences you find in every country, such as shaft length, leaf colour and green/white transition. That is the only way for growers to get good sales of their product.

Attractive product
For a good presentation on the shelves we select on attractiveness of a product. For growers it is important as well that the leeks are easy to clean and that the crop stays healthy. Strong, flexible leaves minimise the risk of any damage. It goes without saying that preconditions are a good yield and uniformity.

Widening and deepening
As is the case with many other vegetables, convenience plays an ever greater part in leeks. Leeks are increasingly sold pre-packed, as sticks or pre-cut in bags. Rijk Zwaan plays into this by developing suitable varieties. By widening and deepening our range we are working on large supplies of hybrid varieties.
