Global Melon & Watermelon e-Vent 2021
Rijk Zwaan celebrates a new edition of its most international melon and watermelon field days. This year we are once again adapting the format of the event so that the visitor can attend, both in person and virtually, to our Rijk Zwaan CED La Palma in Cartagena. From 28 June to 9 July 2021.
Rijk Zwaan lettuce varieties have resistance against new downy mildew race BI:37EU
Downy mildew is a major threat in lettuce. The fungus can damage the lettuce leaves in both protected and open-field crops, resulting in a loss of yield. Last year the European Commission of the International Bremia Evaluation Board (IBEB-EU) identified a widely occurring new variant of downy mildew in lettuce. As of 1 June 2021, it has officially been denominated as Bl:37EU. The large majority of Rijk Zwaan’s current lettuce varieties are resistant to the new race of downy mildew.

Enthusiastic reaction to new Sweet Palermo colours
Chain partners have reacted enthusiastically to the new Sweet Palermo colours. Orange and chocolate-coloured variants are now available in addition to red and yellow ones within Rijk Zwaan’s brand of sweet pointed peppers.

Rijk Zwaan opens brand-new R&D facility in Fijnaart
On the afternoon of Friday 14 September, Rijk Zwaan officially opened its brand-new R&D facility on Eerste Kruisweg in Fijnaart. This extension gives the international vegetable breeding company the necessary space to further expand its research activities.
Denomination of new official races downy mildew in lettuce, Bl:34EU & Bl:35EU
With effect from 02 July 2018 the International Bremia Evaluation Board Europe (IBEB-EU) has named two new official races of downy mildew in lettuce, Bl:34EU & Bl:35EU.
Rijk Zwaan joins forces in new R&D consortium
Rijk Zwaan will be able to expand its research activities as one of the partners of the Crops of the Future Collaborative. This new public-private consortium is convened by the Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research (FFAR, located in the USA) and has research on leafy vegetables as one of its points of attention.
Retail Center now open for visitors
Rijk Zwaan has today officially opened its Retail Center in Berlin, Germany. The Retail Center is Rijk Zwaan’s latest step in further improving its service to retailers and identifying the right priorities for the company’s breeding programmes.
